Sri Raghavendra Teertharu's miracle at Karad, Maharashtra, is described in Mantralaya (2027).
Meaning
In
one of the Mantralaya articles, we explored the significant event of
Sri Raghavendra Teertharu observing Chaturmasya at Kolhapur,
Maharashtra. During his stay Sri Rayaru, known for his divine grace and
spiritual wisdom, blessed the great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj. This meeting was a momentous occasion as Shivaji Maharaj, a
devout and righteous ruler sought the blessings of the saint for
strength and success in his endeavors.
Sri Rayaru’s presence in
Kolhapur during Chaturmasya was a spiritually enriching period, drawing
devotees and seekers who were eager to receive his wisdom and divine
grace. Sri Rayaru's blessings upon Shivaji Maharaj further reinforced
the spiritual foundation of the ruler’s mission, guiding him to uphold
Dharma and justice in his kingdom.
In this article, let us explore the journey of Sri Raghavendra Teertharu after his visit to Kolhapur.
After
leaving Kolhapur Sri Rayaru arrived in Nashik where he bathed in the
sacred Godavari River, performed the Moola Rama Pooja and blessed
numerous devotees. The Godavari River originating from Trimbakeshwar in
Nashik is India’s second-longest river and holds great spiritual
significance.
Sri Rayaru stayed in Nashik for a few days
spreading his divine blessings and spiritual wisdom. From there he
continued his journey and arrived in Karad in Maharashtra . Karad had a
strong presence of Sri Mutt followers and a vibrant Madhwa community,
eager to receive his teachings and guidance.
Vasu Deva Pant
Sahavasi, the esteemed head of Karad, was a deeply devoted soul. Filled
with reverence he humbly invited Sri Rayaru to stay at his home and
ensured all arrangements were made with utmost care and devotion.
For
10–15 days, Sri Rayaru graced Karad with his divine presence,
performing the sacred pooja of Sri Moola Rama Devaru in every home that
welcomed him. The town became a radiant hub of spiritual energy,
illuminated by the grace of Sri Moola Rama and Sri Rayaru’s blessings.
Devotees
from neighboring towns flocked to Karad, eager to witness the divine
pooja and immerse themselves in Sri Rayaru’s profound discourses. Each
day was filled with the teachings of Sri Madhwacharyaru, the sacred
ritual of Mudra Dharana and the blessed Hastodaka meal leaving the
hearts of devotees overflowing with devotion and gratitude.
On
the final day of Sri Rayaru’s stay in Karad a grand Sri Moola Rama
Pooja was performed at Pant’s house. The air resonated with Vedic
chants, hymns and the divine glory of Sri Rayaru. The entire
atmosphere was spiritually charged and those who witnessed the pooja
were overwhelmed with devotion, many shedding tears of joy.
After
the sacred meal, an evening event called Deepa Alankara was organized,
where countless lamps were lit, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
Amidst the celebration, a thought arose among Pant’s family and
friends. “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could offer a Hindustani
musical concert in honor of Sri Rayaru? Music is so dear to him.” The
idea filled their hearts with longing.
Pant, however lowered his
gaze, his face shadowed with sorrow. “Alas,” he sighed, “had fate been
kinder, my cousin Surdendra would have performed on this sacred night.
He was once a gifted musician. His voice was a divine melody but
misfortune struck as he lost his voice . How unfortunate we are
that such an auspicious moment has arrived, yet his music remains lost
in silence”. A quiet hush fell over the gathering, the joy of the
evening momentarily touched by sadness. Yet, in the presence of Sri
Rayaru, every sorrow was but a passing cloud.
Sri Raghavendra
Swamy heard about Vasu Deva Pant’s sorrow and called him. With folded
hands and a trembling voice, Pant explained, tears rolling down his
cheeks.“My cousin, Sri Surendra, was once a great singer, loved across
Maharashtra for his divine voice. But jealous people, unable to bear
his success, did black magic on him. Since then he has not spoken a
single word in four years.” Sri Rayaru listened with a calm smile.
“Bring Surendra to me,” Sri Rayaru said.
Pant hurried to bring
Surendra, who walked in slowly. Surendra’s eyes filled with pain. As
soon as Surendra saw Sri Rayaru, he fell at Rayaru’s feet offering a
deep Sashtanga Namaskara. Sri Rayaru looked at him with pure compassion
and spoke firmly, “Oh Surendra, you will sing tonight. This is the wish
of my Moola Rama Devaru”. The crowd gasped. A man who had lost his
voice for four years, how could he sing? People looked at each other in
disbelief.
Surendra, too, was shocked. But as he looked into Sri
Rayaru’s kind and powerful eyes, something changed. A spark of hope lit
up within him. His heart which had been filled with pain for years now
felt warm. Then in that very moment something incredible happened. A
bright light shone from Sri Rayaru’s eyes and entered Surendra’s eyes.
He felt the divine light travel down to his throat breaking the
invisible chains that had held his voice captive for so long. A sudden
surge of energy filled him. His throat once lifeless now felt open and
alive. Overcome with devotion, Surendra cried out in a loud clear voice
“I am blessed, O Guru Rayara! Om Sri Raghavendraya Namaha!” The entire
crowd froze in shock. And then within seconds the silence turned into
joyful cries. Tears streamed down people's faces as they witnessed this
divine miracle.Sri Rayaru, his face glowing with divine grace, simply
smiled and said “I told you, my Moola Rama Devaru wants you to sing
tonight.”
That night with overwhelming joy and devotion Sri
Surendra sang endlessly. His voice once lost, now echoed through the
entire town like a divine melody. The city did not sleep. Every street,
every home was filled with the magic of his music. The air vibrated
with devotion and people wept with gratitude, witnessing this miracle.
Sri Rayaru’s grace had restored not just a voice but the soul of an
entire town.
In the morning, Sri Raghavendra Swamy showered his
blessings upon the gathered devotees, Surendra, and Vasu Deva Pant. His
divine presence had filled their hearts with immense joy and gratitude,
leaving a lasting impression on their souls. With miracles witnessed
and blessings bestowed, Sri Rayaru resumed his sacred journey, leaving
behind a town that transformed by his grace. His next destination was
Bijapur, where his divine light was destined to shine once more.
This
beautiful incident perfectly illustrates the power of Sri Raghavendra
Swamy’s divine grace, as described by two great devotees of Rayaru.
Sri Krishnavadhootaru, in his Sri Raghavendra Tantra, says
|| Hatwaa Cha Dushtaan Krimi Vruschikaanda Jaataan Mama Avyaat Gururaja Dandam
Bhindyaat Pishachaasura Yaksha Raksho Bhoota Gruhaadeen GuruPaada Renuhu ||
No
form of black magic or negative energy can withstand the mighty
presence of Sri Raghavendra Swamy. The evil forces, whether they are
wicked humans, dangerous creatures, or harmful spirits, cannot harm
those protected by Rayaru's name and blessings. Sri Krishnavadhootaru
assures that Rayaru will punish the wicked and protect his devotees
from all forms of darkness, including Bhootas, Prethas, Pishachas, and
other malevolent energies. Rayaru’s divine presence, especially in the
form of his sacred Mruttika, acts as a shield from all spiritual and
physical dangers.
Similarly, Sri Appancharyaru in his Guru Stotra beautifully describes
|| Andhobhi divya drushti, syadheda mookopi vagpati,
Poorna ayu poorna sampathi, stotrasyaasya japangaveth ||
Chanting
the Guru's praises with devotion can bring miraculous transformations.
Appancharyaru says that those born blind will be blessed with divine
sight (Divya Drushti), the mute will speak eloquently (Vagpati), the
short-lived will be granted long life (Poorna Ayu), and the poor will
be blessed with wealth and prosperity. The power of devotion to Sri
Raghavendra Swamy is limitless, bringing blessings that transform lives
in the most unimaginable ways.
In both these divine words, we
see the unwavering faith in the miraculous power of Sri Raghavendra
Swamy to uplift his devotees, heal them from afflictions and protect
them from every harm. The miracle of Surendra’s restored voice is just
one of the many examples of Rayaru’s boundless grace.
We are
truly blessed to have Sri Raghavendra Swamy as our compassionate Guru.
Since his Brindavana Pravesh, Sri Rayaru remains alive in Brindavana in
a state of Yoga Nidra meditation for 700 years, continuously guiding
and uplifting humanity. The path he has laid continues to inspire and
lead us at the Sri Raghavendra Mutt, where, under the enlightened
leadership of Sri SubhudendraTeertharu, the divine legacy of Sri Rayaru
flourishes. Sri SubhudendraTeertharu’s guidance has fostered remarkable
growth and the upliftment of countless souls in Mantralaya, shining as
a beacon of hope, devotion, and grace.
Life is filled with
challenges, but with Sri Raghavendra Swamy by our side, we need not
worry. He takes care of everything. When we feel drained or unwell, a
visit to Mantralaya, even for just a day, can restore our energy and
spirit. As Hari Dasaru beautifully said, “Mantralaya is Vaikunta to
us.” We are fortunate to have such a divine refuge..
The devotion towards
Sri Raghavendrateertharu is the ultimate truth and is the most simple
and effective way to reach Sri Hari - "NAMBI KETTAVARILLAVO EE
GURUGALA"! “Those who have complete faith in this Guru will never be
disappointed.”
